Culture shock at Wendy's.

I find it interesting that Lady Chatterly's Lover still holds a sense of taboo after all these years. Case in point, an employee at Wendy's today approached me to ask what I was reading. I handed her my copy of The Rainbow and her response was, "Hmm. Most everybody else only reads the other Lawrence."

And behind me, a table of Quebecois. It's been far too long since I heard the burbling brook-babble of francais. I need to find a primer and re-learn.

Why am I taken back that you actually get asked what you are reading? Most people avoid me when I'm reading; bibliophile force field, I think.
