Toddler Pwnage - Episode III

Every now and then Canaan likes to ask, or rather demand, that various family members and visitors say or sing a particular phrase. Things like, "I'm a pirate! ARGH!" or "Ahoy, matey!" or other swashbuckler-y exclamations. "Rock 'n roll!" is my particular favourite.

Last night he wanders downstairs and shouts, "Daddy, say 'I like to move it, move it!'"

I was immediately concerned. He'd digressed from "Rock'n roll!" to what is quite possibly the worst dance song since "WHOOP! There it is!" or even "Tootsie Roll." I wondered where he could've picked this up and immediately blamed his mother. She likes John Tesh, so you can see the inevitable musical conflicts in the house.

"Son," I replied gently, so I didn't alarm him with my worry, "there is NO way your father is going to say, "I like to move it, move it!'"

He tilted his head, puppy-like, and looked at me quizzically. "Daddy, you just did!"

Doh.

That's awesome! I love those moments when the kids outwit us. What's even better is when they look at you and say 'Daddy, you're the strongest!' Priceless!
